Review: Because I Love You - Tori Rigby

Hi!
I got a copy of this book via Netgalley for free in an exchange for an honest review, so here's my review of this book!
Thank you Blaze Publishing!
P.S. I'm sorry to all of my Portuguese viewers, but I will talk about this book in my August Wrap-up.

Title: Because I Love You
Writer: Tori Rigby
Published by: Blaze Publishing
Pages: 330

Summary: Eight weeks after sixteen-year-old Andie Hamilton gives her virginity to her best friend, “the stick” says she’s pregnant.
Her friends treat her like she’s carrying the plague, her classmates torture and ridicule her, and the boy she thought loved her doesn’t even care. Afraid to experience the next seven months alone, she turns to her ex-boyfriend, Neil Donaghue, a dark-haired, blue-eyed player. With him, she finds comfort and the support she desperately needs to make the hardest decision of her life: whether or not to keep the baby.
Then a tragic accident leads Andie to discover Neil’s keeping a secret that could dramatically alter their lives, and she's forced to make a choice. But after hearing her son’s heartbeat for the first time, she doesn’t know how she’ll ever be able to let go.

P.S. This review contains spoilers!

Because I Love You was a book that caught my eyes because of the storyline: a sixteen-years-old girl that gets pregnant. I've never read something similar to this, but since I want to start reading more diverse books I decided to give it a try! And I can say that I really enjoyed it!

I decided to start this book in the beginning of August out of curiosity, nothing more, but after a few pages, I was hooked into the story and the characters. I couldn't put it down, and in two days time I finished it!

I really enjoyed the characters, even though sometimes I felt that some of them were a little bit too much for my taste, like for example Jill, who could hack into everything, even NASA. Don't get me wrong, I really like Jill as a character. She is such a nice and supportive friend but I'm tired of reading about young girls/boys that can hack into every single data base.

But let's talk about the main characters. Andie was a really sweet and strong girl that anyone could feel a connection to and Neil was the boy that everyone loves to read about: protective, strong, sexy and funny. And their romance was cute since it wasn't insta-love and they had an actual connection, but I can say that I wish it had been better developed because Andie and Neil's relationship began after she was pregnant and both characters had to completely change their lives because of the pregnancy.

I confess that the ending took me by surprise because I wasn't expecting that Andie would give her baby for adoption, since she said, multiple times during the book, she wouldn't, but I think it was a good decision and it was for the best. I only wish that there were more pages after the ending of this book, because I really wanted to see what happened afterwards.

Even though Because I Love You was a book that I enjoyed, there were some things that I didn't enjoyed as much. For example, the main character finding out that she was adopted while thinking about if it was the right decision to give her own baby to adoption and how both Andie's parents died so abruptly. I know that life is hard and sometimes teenagers lose both their parents, but her mother's death didn't seem right to me, it was too rushed and it looked like it was designed to give more drama to the book.

In my opinion, the author's writing wasn't bad but it wasn't also magnificent, so it didn't leave me feeling like I needed to read more books by Tori Rigby. It was a average writing.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book and how different it was from the typical YA books that come out. I think that should exist more books that talk about the same topics that Because I Love You debated, such as teen pregnancy, abortion and adoption.

To conclude, I can say that Because I Love You was a well done book and there should exist more books like this one.

I gave Because I Love You three stars on Goodreads because even though I liked it, it didn't impressed me that much to give a higher score.

This was my completely honest opinion and I hope you liked it!
Bye, Ana.
